As the email most of you have received states, several federal stimulus packages are set to end on Saturday, December 26th,"even if there are additional PUA benefits remaining in your account". What does this mean? This means that those who are receiving
Extended state/government benefits after an exhausted balance for a second time
PUA claimants
will stop receiving benefits after December 26th unless Governor Murphy signs Bill S3283 that was passed without opposition in the Legislature this past Thursday, December 17th. Bill S3283 intends to provide eight weeks of emergency unemployment insurance benefits to claimants beginning Monday through Feb. 27, 2021.
This Bill has NOT been signed yet but, state lawmakers are pushing for it to avoid families having to choose between providing their families holiday gifts, paying bills and putting food on the table. This Bill will ensure benefits while Congress continues to negotiate a new stimulus approach.
If you are currently receiving REGULAR direct government or federal unemployment benefits you will continue to receive them as long as you have a "remaining balance" in your Claim Status. Earlier this month, Governor Murphy signed bill A4852 expanding a 20-week benefit extension for those who exhausted their regular unemployment benefits.
